2010 PCBAA Conference Overview
We’re excited about the 2010 NACBA/PCBAA Annual Conference, which will be held at the beautiful Gaylord Palms in Orlando, Florida, July 19 – 23, 2010! The PCBAA portion of the conference will be held July 19-21. Our PCBAA Conference Planners, Cindy Bozman and Dale Hendrix, have been working hard to put all the details together to assure all of us a Conference filled with learning and fun, without the hassle of making the plans ourselves.
Monday, July 19
We will begin the Conference with a PCBAA Mission Project on Monday morning. Last year’s event was great, as we hit the streets of Long Beach, California, looking for people we could help as a way of saying thank you to the community for hosting our Conference. In 2010 we are hoping to work in a food pantry or kitchen.
Keep watching as these plans are finalized.
If you are interested in attending a Presbyterian Polity class, we will hold one on Monday, 1:30-4:00pm. This is a requirement to become a Presbyterian Certified Church Administrator (PCCA), but anyone who is interested in learning more about Presbyterian polity is welcome to attend. Please let Wade Meranda know if you are planning to attend so we can have the necessary supplies available. There is an additional, non-refundable fee of $25 for this course.
Our annual PCBAA Welcome Reception is always a big hit as we greet each other after a year’s absence. We will meet in a beautiful banquet room at the Gaylord Palms from 5:30-6:30pm for a light snack, great fellowship—and our always popular door prizes!
Wow—That’s just Monday!! Hold onto your hats because the fun is just beginning (I know—calling a polity class fun is quite a stretch!)…
Tuesday, July 20
Tuesday evening we will hold our PCBAA Business Meeting Dinner, which will include voting on and installing Board Officers and celebrating with our new Certification candidates. We will meet in the Gaylord Palms from 6:00-9:30pm for a wonderful dinner, more great fellowship, and of course, door prizes!!
Clark Simmons from the Board of Pensions will also give us a brief update on insurance information, etc., from the BOP. This is an important meeting for all of our PCBAA members, so we hope you will join us! Some of you asked that we not plan activities for all of the Conference evenings to allow you to have a free night, so we have combined our two dinners to accommodate those requests and to help keep the costs from going up.
Tuesday night following our dinner (9:30-10:30pm), NACBA CEO, Simeon May has once again invited us to the President’s Suite for a hospitality time. We’ll continue our fellowship and fun, and view the Gaylord Palms from a whole new perspective. This is also a time when we get to say “thank you” to Simeon for all the work he does for us.
Wednesday, July 21
Every year the various denominational organizations help bring the best presenters and requested subjects to the Conference by assisting NACBA in covering costs incurred in bringing the speakers to the Conference site. This year, the Presbyterian-hosted workshops will be held on Wednesday, July 21, and we’ve invited
Patti Mallot from Upright Ministries to present a workshop on the subject, “Reducing the Risk of Litigation through Wise Employment Practices.” If you’ve ever heard Patti as a presenter, you know that she will continue the history of having the best and most knowledgeable presenters at Conference. The subject is also one that is often requested as we all struggle with Human Resource issues. Times of those workshops will be 1:00-2:45 or 3:45-5:30pm. The same information will be presented at both workshops.
Wednesday evening brings us to the close of the Presbyterian portion of the Conference, and we always like to go out in style! Once again our Conference Planners have outdone themselves in finding a great place to hold our Special Event. We will meet at 6:00pm and travel off site to the “Medieval Times Castle” for a special dinner and show.
Of course this is only the PCBAA portion of the Conference! Add to these activities all of NACBA’s planned activities and your week will be jam-packed with exciting activities, wonderful food, fabulous fellowship, and intense learning opportunities about how to keep your church moving forward in the most excellent way.
We hope to see YOU in Orlando!
